Exam Picture 1: This picture has been altered, technically, to make the mood appear gloomy and sad but with a small hint of hope through the light being shone on her shoulder. The picture is black and white to show there's no color, and mostly shadow except for the small patch of light on her shoulder. I interpret that this photographer wanted to show that the light resembles hope and that there's only a little left for this girl. I feel, myself, hopeless by looking at this image. I feel hopeless for her because she seems depressed and unhappy. Maybe she's had a rough time with family or her love life has made her this way. The photographer looked as though as he/she distinctly placed the girl in the shadows but with a small ray of light touching her. The artist took this picture from an angle to interpret to the viewer that you are there with her, almost like she's an everyday girl that you would see lonely and depressed. I feel like the artist wanted us, as the viewers, to be casually going on with our everyday lives and take this as a girl we wouldn't look twice at, but the artist conveyed her to be something more in this photograph. In real life, I wouldn't have come to this conclusion, but through the photograph I interpreted that she's merely losing hope because all the light on her is just about gone.

Exam Picture 2: The author, in this picture, emphasizes the not only the people in the picture, but also the setting, where this picture was taken. The first thing I noticed was the baby, being held by the woman who appears a little old to be its mother. The baby looks calm, and peaceful, resembling new live. Meanwhile, the woman looks old, restless, and worn out resembling decaying life. It reminds me of the saying "For every old life, there's a new one." And the author portrayed this feeling by shooting in a desert, or neutral place. It has just about nothing, no emotion or feeling, and the sky is a mass of gray. The background has no emotion, unlike the people. I think the theme of this picture is death and life, and the woman resembles death, because it appears she knows her time is near, while the baby resembles life. The photograph makes me feel sad for the woman, she looks like her life isn't treating her too well at the moment of the photograph, and I feel like if she was dying it would be a stressful death, not peacefully. This image is significant because the angle the artist used makes it seem like the viewer is standing there with the woman and child. Almost as if she's handing the baby over because she's no longer suitable to take care of it and wants to make sure the baby is safe if anything happens to her because she looks old and fatigued and about to pass.

Exam Picture 3: This picture, for me, resembles the lives of the young people in inner cities, or non-suburban places. The author took the picture from a distance and a elevated just a little bit to portrays, to me, that he looks down upon people like those. They're J-Walking across the street, and because, as you can see down the road there's no cross walk, which shows that these men just cross daily wherever they need to. This just makes me feel like this is an everyday life for these people, it looks like wherever they are, it doesn't seem like too much is going on for them, and they need to make their own fun. Maybe their crossing the street to a park, or to get something to ear, because by the way their walking, their posture and strut, makes them seem like their going to a place they've been before, and won't be miserable or bored there. They almost seem excited to go, like they know something good is coming. The artist used movement to show that their not jus standing in the street but actually moving to show they're going somewhere. Also, the elevation reminds me of a movie scene where the camera is slowly showing a whole view of the town and the camera's rising, and slowly looking down on them. Also. the shadows of the boys make it so that the sun is high in the sky so its the middle or peek of the day. Perhaps they are at work, and if it is the middle of the day, they're on a lunch break and going to lunch.

Exam Picture 4: In this image, I see a woman, who is of age and who appears happy to still be alive. She composes herself as someone who still has a young spirit, and she's grateful to have been alive as long as she has. It seems like she's looking at something, with a gleam in her eyes, like she was expecting it. Perhaps. she's looking at death, she see's the "light" and is happy for herself, and celebrating her life on the inside. Her smile makes her seem like it could break into a cry, but of joy for her. I get the vibe that she feels like she knew her time was coming because of the way she's looking at whatever it is that she's looking at, because she didn't even turn her head to look, she just gazed and kept her head still. The artist altered this picture, technically, to make it black and white but still with a yellowish glow. The background is white, and I feel like she's in a place that's not entirely real and of this dimension. Perhaps she's in a dimension between life and death and her life is being flashed before her eyes. From the perspective of the viewer, it almost looks like you can see her final expression before she dies and you know that she was happy before her death.

Exam Picture 5 (Artist: Duane Michals): I see, in this picture a man who is dead and the same man puzzled to see his own body deceased. I feel like he's pondering and confused as to what has happened and why to him of all people. The black line above his head, to me looks like a black halo hovering over him. I think this resembles the feeling of that his death is coming and is hovering over him and worrying him about how and when he'll die. I get the same feeling as I do when I'm at a sad event like a wake or the funeral itself. The picture was made dark all around except for a small amount of light above the corpse maybe representing his soul that has left his body. The picture was shown at an angle to give you the perspective as though as you're the one who discovered his body and your showing him it. I feel like I'm there in the room, and unsure of what to do because from his facial expression it looks like his actions will be questionable.
